Winter

Shooter: Winter Contest: Results out!

Winter

Snow clad mountains, frozen rivers, fresh morning dew, sun rays piercing through the haze and the hot morning chai. The Shooter Winter contest entries showcased every facet of the season. And to find ones that really captured its soul we turned to ace lensman, Pradeep Das Gupta. So here they are, the top four images that epitomized winter.

Pradeep Das GuptaAbout the Judge: Born to sculptor parents and having grown up amongst art and artists, Pradeep Das Gupta chose a camera at the age of seventeen to express himself. More than thirty five years later, he still longs to use his camera and enjoys photography as he did as a teenager. While the urban life takes centre stage in most of his personal work, his commercial portfolio covers everything from cars to peppermint.

Sun melting on the ground

Diyuti Majumdar, Sun melting on the ground | Cambridge, USA   Epson PictureMate PM215
Pradeep says: A strong image in the classical sense. Evokes a sense of travel, mystery and adventure way beyond the visual depiction within the frame. I find myself drawn into the picture.

THE PRIZE: Diyuti Majumdar wins the Epson PM235.

Tarapada Bannerjee,
Morning Tea | Kolkata
Pradeep says: A typical winter morning we are all familiar with. The lack of detail in the image works to its advantage encouraging the viewer to “feel” the atmosphere rather than just “see” it.

Sirsendu Gayen, Morning Mist | Lamtaput, Orissa
Pradeep says: A very delicate image of winter. Almost like a Japanese painting made Indian with the occupants.
Morning Mist

Untitled
Ajay Verma, Untitled | Delhi, Old fort.
Pradeep says: A simple but strong composition of a snowed‐in winter night. The blue tone enhances the chill
