We asked you to choose a theme and you pointed us to a place they call Paradise- A place here on earth which is as beautiful, as serene and as tranquil as the Heavens above. And then you took us there through your breathtaking imagery, each more splendid than the one before. So we had to summon one of the Gods of photography, Nrupen Madhvani to dive into this surreal world and choose the best works of art. And here they are!
About the Judge: Nrupen Madhvani entered the world of photography almost two decades ago as a photojournalist. His restless nature and fear of visual stagnation then led him to try his hand at and effectively master not only different genres of photography but also the art of advertising and film making. He has numerous international accolades to his name including Ballantine’s International Award for excellence and honourable mention at the International Photography Awards.

Kiran Rawat, Moon Magic | Darma Valley - Panchachulli Peak (Tibet border)
Nrupen Madhvani says: “Moon Magic” stood out at many levels. Firstly, it is monochromatic, and that’s not the conventional visual interpretation of Paradise. Then there’s the pristine mountain that looks unassailable. A very subtle moon hovering in the background adds to the surreal effect. At the same time the overall scene conveys a sense of intrigue. It places a challenge before me: is it possible to attain this elusive goal of what we think is Paradise? THE PRIZE: Kiran Rawat wins the Epson PM235.

Rithwik Virunnukandi, Heaven on earth | Vedanthagal, Chennai
Nrupen Madhvani says: “Heaven On Earth” is special because it has a strong fantasy element, and the concept of Paradise is just that – like a fairy tale with a perfect ending. What is also striking is the low-key, warm foliage that seems to pull you into its dark layers. The serene white bird reflects purity and appears almost unreal in this setting. I must add, though, that I felt the title was weak in comparison to the image. | |

Ram Morrison , Beyond the Horizon | Andhra Pradesh.
Nrupen Madhvani says: “Beyond The Horizon” leads me into a view of the sea and sky with the mauve accents and initially the feeling is that this composition could easily fall into the trap of a pictorial cliché. Fortunately, that’s not the case because the effective use of the extreme wide angle along with the delicate balance of hues juxtaposed with the silhouettes provide a more personal perspective and this puts the image into a more mysterious space.

Vikas Wadhwa, Journey Back Home | Chennai.
Nrupen Madhvani says: “Journey Back Home” is unusual even though the subject matter is not. What piques me is that I don’t see the birds immediately though I’m aware that there is something there. This curiosity pulls me in and on enlarging the image, I see that it’s a very large flock but they’re flying in what is an extraordinary pattern. The event unfolding here is dynamic, but I like the fact that this image doesn’t shout. It whispers.
