Ankush Maria

About me

Hi I am Ankush Maria. Currently I am working with Gadgets & Gizmos magazine, an India Today Group publication, as a Staff Photographer. I am a Post Graduate in Still Photography from AJK MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia University. I started photography in 2006 and since then haven’t looked back. I have always tried to exploit my potential to the fullest, and create good photographs. I have inclined  towards nature & Wildlife photography, but still when it comes to my favourite genre, it's always Product, Table Top and Still Life Photography.

Q&A

Why do you think your photo should win the Photo of the Year (POTY) Contest?
I have tried to create a photograph by not just click it. According to me it should be considered because of its simplicity and the message it conveys -“FREEDOM”. This caption also suits the image because it was shot on 1st January 2009, the first day of the year.

Who do you think is your biggest competitor?
According to me everyone out there have done a great job which is why they are among the best. For me it’s not about competing with someone else. You always try and compete with yourself in order to make your work from good to better and from better to best. So it’s all about the participation and in the end there is only 1 winner. May the best photograph win.

How long have you been a photographer?
I have been doing photography since 16th January 2006 when I had my 1st photography lecture under the guidance of Mr. O.P.Sharma.

What does photography mean to you?
Photography to me is a “way of life”. It always surrounds us and we cannot escape from it. Then again there is no need to escape it as it makes our life more interesting and meaningful. Every time I press the shutter I relish it.

What does your ideal day with a camera look like?
Every single day when I pick up my camera is the ideal day for me, as I don’t just shoot but live each and every second of that day with my camera.

Why should the flock vote for your photo?
I have done my part. Now it’s up to the flock to judge and the jury to decide.
