POTY Entry | | About me | | I am an Electrical Engineer and am working with Govt. of India. Photography is my serious hobby. I took training in creative photography techniques at the Light and Life Academy, Ooty under the guidance of Nathan Daniel Sigman, a faculty from Brooks Institute, USA. I love shooting, Nature, Macro, candid portraits and Glamour photographs. My photographs have received more than 50 international honours including nine from Kodak and one from National Geographic. I am a keen learner and still hungry for learning more, because sky is the limit for the art and philosophy of Photography. | | Q&A | | | Why do you think your photo should win the Photo of the Year (POTY) Contest? My image titled “Dangerous Photographer” is a real time shoot. It was a challenge for me to capture the photographer in air during his jump from one peak to another. I got success in capturing the frame at the right time with perfect exposure and composition. It is a life time shot. Who do you think is your biggest competitor? Winner image “Another World” of Mar,09 by Sh. Partha Pal. How long have you been a photographer? I started photography during 1970 with Yashica Lectro 35, a film camera. I took to serious creative amateur photography from 2005 when I bought my first DSLR Nikon D70S camera with 18-70mm and 70-300mm lenses. When I started getting recognition at international level like Kodak and National Geographic, I felt the need for a full frame DSLR and added Nikon D700 with 18-200mm VR. I also bought lenses like 50mm 1.4, 105mm 2.8 Nacro, CPL filter and 1.4x tele converter. I have been honored with nine Kodak POTD awards till date and my image "Thirst" was ranked fourth in International Photography competition 2008 by National Geographic.
What does photography mean to you? Photography is an Art. We see frames in nature or expressions in people. Visualization of the available frame with right angle is very important because it ensures the captured image has some meaning and can speak. The imagination, visualization, composition and use of right lens for each shoot are the key factors in Photography. What does your ideal day with a camera look like? When I come out early in the morning to shoot Nature, Flowers or People(Candid), I try to use the Golden light period of the morning or the evening. If I get a SPEAKING picture of people(Candid) or the colours and details in a flower, I feel happy and treat the day as ideal. Why should the flock vote for your photo? My image titled “Dangerous Photographer” is a real time shoot with perfect timing, composition, colour, details and exposure. It fits well with the third rule. | |
