About me

While in fifth grade, at the age of 10, I did sketch and paint but that's about all the formal training I had. I consider myself a self-taught photographer but I totally agree that I have benefited immensely from the work of so many professional/amateur photographers that I have seen online on various photo sharing websites.

When my brother presented me with a digital Point and Shoot camera few years back in 2005, I took to photography instantly. More recently I have upgraded my equipment to a Digital SLR, Nikon D80, and have decided to take photography more seriously. With my DSLR I hope to overcome the limitations of a Point and Shoot camera and come up with not only technically better shots but try and look for a more creative viewpoint and experiment with the exposure/focus.

What drives me as an artist is my quest to understand the world, to observe how things actually are and how they are perceived. I find it strange that many things go amiss and are seen only when they are framed. Although I try my hand at various genres, I am drawn more to street photography. That's where I believe I have an opportunity to observe life and catch it as it happens.

Q&A

Why do you think your photo should win the Photo of the Year (POTY) Contest?
It has all the elements that a good photograph should have. Good light, framing, symmetry, the human elements adding interest as well a sense of movement and finally the all important, timing.

Who do you think is your biggest competitor?
There are quite a few.

How long have you been a photographer?
I have been a photographer since 2005.

What does photography mean to you?
It’s a way of life now. It’s amazing how often we look but rarely "see" and hear but rarely "listen". Photography allows us to see and explore the world and the various aspects of life in it.

What does your ideal day with a camera look like?
If I can have just a single frame that cannot be repeated again, I will be more than happy.

Why should the flock vote for your photo?
Because I think they are a discerning lot :)
