Commenting on my own photo is not so easy. I shot this one in the Green room (dressing and make-up room of performers) of Kamala Bari Maha Rass (Majuli, Assam) when the makeup artist was doing his job. Maha Raas is a traditional folk dance (with act) which originated in Vrindavan, India. It is performed to depict scenes the life of Shri Krishna and Radha. I saw a spark in the eyes of the small boy (one of the performers) and captured it in my photograph while he was being given the final touch by the make-up artist. Who do you think is your biggest competitor? All 48 winning shots have been selected 11000+ photographs. So all photographs in the competition are great and unique, with a variety of themes. This competition is going to be very tough. My favourites are - Mallik (Nov 2008), Somenath Mukhopadhyay (Dec 2008) and Stalin Ramesh (Feb 2009). How long have you been a photographer? I have just two years of experience in Photography. I got my first digital camera in Dec 2007. Since then I have be clicking with my Sony Cybershot H-9 everytime I see something interesting in my vision. What does photography mean to you? I am just a kid in the field of Photography. I consider myself an amateur and am still trying to get used to the manual functions of my camera. I read a lot on Photography and whenever I am with the camera I only concentrate on the view finder. What does your ideal day with a camera look like? I always wish for a clear sky with the shining sun and also love to shoot in the evening and early morning at a unique place. Why should the flock vote for your photo? I feel proud that I am one of the contestants of this big contest in India. I request the flocks to vote for me and the other deserving competitors. My photo showcases the rich and ancient culture of not just Assam but the whole of North- East India. Winning this event will bring me one step closer to get world heritage status for Majuli (Assam) - South Asia’s largest river island. | |
