Critique: Appeal lies in the strong graphic qualities

wine1Bhairavi Parikh is an up and coming photographer from Mumbai. In her first critique she has selected a photo that she feels looks like a perfect product shot.

A well-executed product shot has unique beauty. It can draw attention to geometric proportions. This is why I like Shreyas V's picture. The appeal lies in the strong graphic qualities and the coloured transparency of the reflections. The dynamic slant of the lines across the broad canvas and the top angle add to enlivening, what might have been a standard product shot.

The bold colours in conjunction with the white background are attractive and draw attention to the shape of the glass and the bottle. The elongated roundness of the shadows is gentle and the lighting accentuates the shape of the subjects to the right extent.

Bhairavi Parikh graduated from the Shari Academy in 2004 with an award in fine art photography. She held her first solo exhibition in 2007 called ‘Flora’ which featured fine art photos of flowers.
