Fawzan Husain is a photojournalist and has been doing what he loves for nearly two decades now. In his second critique he has selected three images to comment. He gives useful tips on shooting silhouettes.

In a picture of silhouettes you have to make sure that the people don’t overlap. In this photo, the people in the background are looking out of place. A clear separation between the background and the foreground would have improved this photo. The photographer could have used a 1.2 or 1.8 lens to make the background blurred.
This photo is pretty much perfect – the smoke and the tea falling are particularly nice. The only point I would like to make is that I would have loved to see what was in the jars (biscuits, I suspect). This detail would have added a little more colour and ambience to the frame – at the moment there is a lot of white and grey.
This is a very nice silhouette shot. I see that the aperture vale was f/4.5; had it been 8 or 11 there would have been a few more elements in the background to help establish the background.
Before taking up photography full time Fawzan wanted to become a writer. However it was during his stint as a writer that he realised he could convey his stories better through images than words.
