Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150

A wave of superzooms is still strong and more camera manufacturers are cashing on this. But this has worked well for consumers as many superzoom camera models have entered the market at affordable prices. Apart from the price factor, it is the improvement of this line of cameras that has changed the way people viewed point and shoot cameras. The superzooms produced these days are state of the art machines which offer almost everything a DSLR offers, but a detachable lens. Panasonic has joined the fray with a line of superzooms and their latest is Lumix DMC-FZ150. Here is a quick look at this camera.

Review: Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Lens

You probably may not have seen a Sigma camera in use but if you are fan of DSLRs, you may have seen a Sigma lens mounted on various high end cameras. Sigma has been in the optical manufacturing industry for over fifty years now and started making super zooms in the early 1990s. Over the years, Sigma has churned many lenses, many of which have been top of the pick for professional shutter men.

One of their newest glasses announced in 2011 was the Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM but this lens is not yet readily available in India and it has a price tag that may not impress amateur photographers at this time. However, even as the new Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM quickly becomes a coveted glass for both professionals and amateurs, its predecessor, Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM, is still a hit and with a much reduced price, amateurs can go for it and experience photography in a new light. This lens is meant for use with smaller Advanced Photo System type-C (APS-c) chip cameras only.

Review: Sony Alpha SLT A35

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that it was just in 2006 that Sony entered into the DSLR manufacturing arena. Since then, their progress has spoken for itself with production of some of the world’s best compact camera. Sony is known for their cutting edge technology that is spelt in each and every of their products especially the cameras. It is their romancing with technology that gave rise to the Single-Lens Translucent (SLT) technology and Sony SLT A35 is one of the cameras that use that technology.

The ‘A’ in Sony SLT A35 stands for Alpha, a familiar name to many who use or know something about Sony digital cameras. Sony SLT A35 is a perfect entry level camera that is ideal for serious amateurs who want to try with professional functions in a relatively small camera. If you can master Sony SLT A35, you can surely be on your way to being a pro! Here is a quick take on Sony SLT A35.

Review: Joby Gorillapod SLR Tripod

One of the most important accessories in photography is definitely a tripod. Much has been done to improve the quality of tripods and to introduce new models into the market. But one of the most intriguing tripods I have seen is the Joby Gorillapod SLR Tripod which is part of a number of Joby Gorillapods line.  Joby Gorillapods were originally designed to be used with small digital cameras but as the improvements went on, now there are models that can be used even with big zoom cameras which weigh much more than the small digital cameras.

Joby Gorillapods SLR Tripod is unique in that it has flexible legs that can be ‘wrapped’ or ‘coiled’ around fitting items or surfaces. They are good for convenience where a tripod seems hard to use but should not be a substitute for a convectional tripod. Here is a brief review of Joby Gorillapod SLR Tripod.

Design and Use

Joby Gorillapod SLR Tripod is a mini tripod whose legs are flexible for wrap around. The legs are made of several balls joined together and wrapped in rubber like material to hold them together and for enhancing grip. The legs are rigid enough to hold on to the surfaces but at the same time flexible enough to be manipulated to take the shape you want. Joby Gorillapod SLR Tripod is meant for regular SLR or DSLR but not for the bigger cameras that use long zoom lenses. For that you will need another type of Gorillapod.
